Seborrheic Dermatitis

A chronic skin condition causing red, peeling, irritated and itchy skin.

What is it?

Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin disorder that results in red, scaly, itchy and peeling skin, mainly on the scalp. It can also impact other oil-rich areas of the body such as the face, chest and back. Seborrheic dermatitis is typically chronic, so finding a plan for symptom management can be important. The symptoms usually vary in intensity and may even vanish temporarily and later reappear. The disorder typically isn't dangerous, but it can be uncomfortable and can make some people self-conscious.

How is it treated?

While there's no absolute cure for seborrheic dermatitis, we can design a management plan to ease your symptoms. Regular check-ups can help track the progress and effectiveness of treatments, which might include topical antifungals, corticosteroid creams, ointments or shampoos. Lifestyle modifications like stress reduction and a consistent skincare routine can also aid in managing outbreaks. Our board-certified dermatologists can provide specific suggestions tailored to your skin type and disorder severity.

If you need help with seborrheic dermatitis, schedule an appointment at one of our offices located in Batavia, Beavercreek, Bridgetown, Cincinnati, Dayton, Dent, Greenville, Hillsboro, Kettering, Mason, Montgomery, Oxford, Troy, West Chester and Wilmington, Ohio.
