Common warts, flat warts and plantar warts are caused by different strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and appear on the hands, face, feet or genitals.
What is it?
Warts are benign, irregular lumps that emerge on the skin when HPV infiltrates the body through a cut or an abrasion on the skin. These elevated, flesh-toned protrusions can appear anywhere on the body, resembling a blister. Most warts pose no harm, however, many patients choose to have them removed to reduce spread, alleviate discomfort or eliminate an eyesore.
Common warts are typically located on the hands, fingers, around the fingernails or on the back of hands. Plantar warts materialize on the soles of the feet and, without treatment, can lead to discomfort. Flat warts can show up anywhere on the body, while filiform warts have a thread-like appearance on the face.
